From "How to Deal with Racist and Sexist Material In Workshop"

Work on empathy. Work on getting the writer to think about what and how they are saying things, using de-politicized language. Encourage them to try to write from their "other" perspective. Assume everyone wants liberation in this world, and critique them from that perspective, assuming they want to write beautiful stories and not ones that by their very nature add to the ugly humdrum world.
